I came up through every layer of the industry — creative, technical, operational, and business. That experience taught me that live events only work when everything aligns around one goal: delivering the client’s message clearly and flawlessly.
There’s no room for shortcuts in this business. You get one chance, and experience teaches you where things can break — and how to prevent that.
Q: How did your upbringing and early mentors influence your leadership style?
This is a service industry, and I was raised to respect hard work and the people doing it. Early on, I learned that showing up, treating people well, and finding solutions — not excuses — is what builds trust.
The mentors I had reinforced that customer service isn’t a department; it’s a mindset. That philosophy still drives how we operate today.
Q: Why is the client’s message the most important part of any event?
Every event exists for a reason. Before we talk about staging, technology, or design, we ask one question: What is the single takeaway the audience needs to leave with?
If production fails, the message is lost. When production is seamless, the message lands. That’s the difference between an event that looks good and one that actually works.
Q: How does technical knowledge factor into leadership today?
You can’t lead technical teams effectively if you’ve never done the work. My role now is to translate vision into execution — and that only happens when leadership understands the realities of production, and stays current on new solutions and innovations in the industry.
Q: How do you balance growth with staying connected to clients?
Growth only works if you don’t lose touch with the people you serve. At Media West, we want to scale thoughtfully — without becoming so large that clients no longer know who’s behind their event.
Being involved isn’t micromanaging. It’s accountability, accessibility, and trust.
Q: What advice would you give to people entering the live event and/or production industry?
Do the work. All of it.
This industry rewards people who understand the full process — not just one role. It takes long hours, commitment, and patience, but the payoff is a career built on experience, relationships, and trust.

AI is a powerful strategic tool — not a replacement.
We use it to enhance creative development, improve efficiency, and explore new ideas faster. But the core of live events will always be human. You still need people to manage, build, run, and call the show, and to make real-time decisions that technology can’t.
The goal is to incorporate new solutions thoughtfully, while preserving what matters most to our clients: authentic connection, trust, and experience.

I hire people for their expertise and let them do what they do best.
